Just double over the line before you tie the "eight". I agree with 
Disler, a bowline is used when you have to have the ability to untie the 
knot quickly after it's been under strain. For example it's the preferred 
knot for tying sheets to jibs and genoas.

But this is a large knot and you would have to use small diameter tubing. 
You ought to give my technique a try and see how you like it.
