All this talk of zip ties lately got me thinking. I asked one of the guys I work with (a sixty year old substation wire-man) what they did before tie wraps. It seems that back in the "good ol' days" the electricians had to use string to tie there cables together. It seems that the string called lacing twine worked fine and was easily removable, but it took a long time to tie up all the wires. So in the intrest of speed and ease of instalation someone invented the zip tie. Shortly after zip ties became availble they were banned from use. Eventualy after determining that they would not harm the wires or burst into flame they became authorized for use. so you see, a bit of string is a good substitute for a tie wrap.
