In regards to this statement, this has happened to me also years ago. I
came up with a preventative measure to keep it from happening again.
Before I jump in, I take several deep, quick breaths from my 2nd stage
while watching my pressure gauge. If the tank/manifold valve is
partially closed the needle on the SPG will fluctuate with each breath.
If it is closed all the way the needle will drop. This also gives a last
minute check of your regulators. (For what it's worth)
