Simple - you missed the 99% probability that you have an anchor
line to hold onto. Not that I think diving OC without a BC is a
good idea, to say the least, or that 99% is an acceptable
probability, over a period of years.

On the RB in the N.E., I dive dry with no BC. But
that's because there's virtually no bouyancy variation
during a dive with a rebreather, due to the fact that
you use so little gas, and the bottles are small. You
just have to nail your weighting for your thickness
of underwear, and you're all set. I have known weights
to deal with thick underwear, extra thick underwear,
and no underwear, for both salt and fresh, and an AUL Spec 7 light
or Spec 14, plus salt water with a 3 mil. That's all
I'll ever need.

But then again, I've always been a stickler for perfect
bouyancy - I can't stand the sluggish response times and
overreaction cycles that result from even minor overweighting.

Rebreather aside, when I dive a set of doubles, I wouldn't
consider doing so without a set of wings.
