Correction: When I wrote "no way to avoid the loss of buoyancy as you drain your tanks" this was due to a severe case of post-dive fatigue. Let's agree on "no way to avoid the increase in buoyancy as you drain your tanks." Also, keep in mind that I don't suggest it's a good idea to drain ones tanks completely (just bracing for another possible flame here) -- the points are just that a) whatever amount of gas you spend in open-circuit means a loss of weight; for "technical" exposures the loss of weight is considerable, and b) it should still be possible to stay down with near-empty tanks, lest there's no point to carrying that emergency reserve in the first place. regards, Hans -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
