Subject: Re: single tank w/ no weight belt

Hi Kevin,

I hate diving with weight belts. I use a 12 pound plate and two 4 pound
drop weights diving double 80s or 72s, with the same exposure protection.
(For reference, I dive with _35_, yes, _35_ pounds on a weight belt, with a
single 80. That is in quite shallow water, though, 6-20 feet, with the
same exposure protection, only adding capilene long underwear under the
thinsulate.) Maybe you could get away with a 12 pound plate and a couple 2
pound drop weights, or make a V or P weight that would work with your
current plate. I've also heard of doubling up the lighter stainless plates
for more weight, althought that's a pretty expensive solution...

I think the easiest thing to do is experiment with different drop weights
until you find out exactly how much additional weight you'll need, then
decide from there. You can make quickie drop weights by tying snaps onto
lead weights with cave line.
