I use rechargables in > my dive lite but that's about it. > jeff weidner > --> Hold on...rechargables are great for non-critical devices but not for critical ones like a dive computer. Rechargables provide full power until they die, which happens quite suddenly compared to other batteries. This then makes any normal battery checks (like the guage on the Phoenix or the lower output of light from a flashlight) usless. Two seconds before a rechargable dies, it registers full power on any test you can give it. Because you can't accurately predict when a rechargable will die, they are dangerous for things like dive computers. Don't get me wrong, I really like rechargables and use them in most of my dive lights, strobes, and lots of non-diving devices. The tip about batteries from RadioShack was a good one but let me add that before they started carrying the Lithium batteries, I bought their 8 packs of alkline 9 volt batteries in my local RadioShack for about $3.00. I dive enough that I was taking out the battery anytime it got below 800 on the Oraca scale and was still saving money over the Kodak Lithium battery.(on a Delphi) The alkines still had enough omph to run my shower radio after I had taken them out of the computer. As always, your milage may vary but please, be careful. Bill VanderClock WVANDERCLOCK@BE*
