I agree with you that this item was intended for the recreational market, and
that extending it to tech diving is a stretch.  I still feel that a pony
bottle would be a better choice for recreational divers than either this thing
or a spare air.  It's a completely redundant system and provides a larger gas
supply.  If manual tank inflation is an issue (for recreational divers, not
the well qualified divers here), just add an inflator hose to the pony.
