No specialist knowledge, but the reason I don't use silicone lube is
because it can burn! Knowing that, I don't have the need myself to delve
into the chemical/physical properties to understand why.

A friend had a long talk USD tech person involved with their nitrox
projects, who told him they've come to the conclusion that Christolube is
simply so much a better lube, that their feeling is it should be used on
all regs, for its superior lubricating qualities. Scubapro apparently
agrees, since they recommend it, and only it, for air Mk15 and 20's,
describing it as a "special lube to improve IP stability and performance."

It's worth remembering that the silicone lubes we use came in rather
through the backdoor, for no other reason than that they were available,
cheap and foodsafe - they weren't ever compounded specifically for dive
use, or even HP gas, and are actually - according the the OXY HACKER -
often really intended as sealants and release agents!

Since a tube of Chrystolube will last the average diver almost forever, and
the price is a drop in the bucket compared to all the other things we spend
money on, why resist it?
