That's dumb -  "nearly the same O2 environment?" - come on, when was the
last time the inside of your mask saw 3000 psi?

The dangers of O2 increase with pressure and flow rates, which is why they
are a concern in the tank, valve and HP side of the 1st stage, and not very
much so anywhere else, least of all in a mask, mouth.
