OK, here's one. The Micra is a great-breathing
second stage (first stage is clunky and weird). I never
would have bought one, but I ended up "inheriting" one, so
I've dived it a fair amount.

That Micra has outlived (and most definitely outbreathes)
two ScubaPro D400's and two G500's, plus a few other,
lesser, regs.

Laugh all you want, but when I went over 500fsw last
month, I took a Micra, a D400, and a G500 as
the two primary and bailout regs. All were
attached to ScubaPro MK20 first stages (an awesome
first stage).

Just because I was curious, I spent a few minutes sucking
trimix off the Micra at about 450fsw, and that thing
definitely breathed better than the (brand new)
D400 I took to the bottom. And D400's are *finicky*
(having blown through several, two of which have never
managed to get properly repaired).

I have not found this to be the case with the Micra - it
is reliable as hell.

The worst breathing of the three was the G500, despite all the
cool marketing graphs that ScubaPro publishes.

Who would expect this from US Divers? Certainly
not ME...but I am pleasantly surprised.

This was certainly not a scientific evaluation,
or statistically relevant, but I would encourage
other regular deep divers to give the Micra a break,
or better, give it a try. You might be surprised.

The downside is that due to the small size, it
definitely vents more gas in you face than bigger
regs.

Regards,

-Will
