Sean, I too have the same problem as you. Most of my life, I was a little heavy, but since 1.5 years ago (at 23 years of age), I have decreased my fat % significantly. I am 6' tall, and went from weighing ~185-190# to a steady 160# now. I too am trying to increase my body weight (by increasing ONLY my muscle mass). I only do cardio work like 3 times per week, and weight train 5 days a week (alternating upper and lower body daily). I use enough weight to only allow 10 reps with each set, and usually do 3-4 sets of each resistance exercise. I am definitely increasing muscle size and definition, but my weight will NOT BUDGE from 160#!? I eat lots of healthy food to include lots of protein, and a little carbs, and try to cut my fat intake whenever I can without being overly obsessive. I would like to "bulk" up to ~ 175lbs but do not want to abandon my cardio conditioning (cycling 3-4 times/45miles per week) in the process. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! -Nathan... ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: diving fitness Author: "Sean T. Stevenson" <ststev@un*.co*> at guardian Date: 4/2/98 1:23 PM I have been following the thread on diet and diving fitness with great interest. I am under the impression that this discussion began to address obese divers specifically. I have a question that I hope someone could answer. I am 6' 5", but only 180 pounds. I have a very fast metabolism, and have always had my skinny body type. I only do minimal weight lifting or strength excercises currently, but I do maintain my cardiovascular fitness by a combination of running and swimming. This regime has been very beneficial to me, as my endurance has increased and RMV gone way down. Is there anything I should know with regard to the type of workout or diet most suitable to my ectomorphic body type to maximize cardio fitness gain? I am somewhat self conscious about looking like a pencil, and intend to begin some sort of weight training to bulk up a bit. I am curious as to whether this will have a negative effect on my cardio fitness, and if so what is the best way to increase body weight while minimizing the negative impact on my cardio fitness?
