Hi everybody-

Since the disinfection issue is coming up again and again, here's my input
to dry out the goober ;-)

Special Respirator Cleaner Plus, made by

Georgia Steel & Chemical Co., Inc.
10810 Guilford Road
Annapolis Junction, MD 20701
USA 800.296.0351
301.317.5502
FAX 301.470.6313
http://safetyonline.net/GeorgiaSteel/

They state that "[it] is safe for use on all respirators and meets OSHA,
ANSI, and CSA recommendations for disinfecting respirators".
"[it] is a one-step broad spectrum virucide, fungicide, and bactericide"

Active Ingredients:" Alkyl (C14, 50%; C12, 40%; C16, 10%) dimethyl benzyl
ammonium chloride 5.36%. Octyl decyl dimethyl ammonium chloride 4.02%.
Didecyl demethyl ammonium chloride 2.71%. Dioctyl dimethyl ammonium chloride
2.01%. "

Procedure: "Dilute 1/2 ounce of Special Respirator Cleaner Plus in 1 gallon
of warm water. Wet surface thoroughly by brushing, soaking or spraying. Let
stand for 3 to 10 minutes. Rinse excess solution from the equipment that has
been disinfected."

It is said to also "remove ... dirt and dust ... hard water scale, soap scum
and body fluids such as blood, and mucous".

Seems to be pretty safe: "diluted 1 part with 256 parts of tap water it is
an effective one-step disinfectant and cleaner for use on inanimate surfaces
not harmed by water". I believe I've seen a guarantee somewhere in the
papers they sent me, that they even replace equipment that was verifiably
damaged by their cleaner (dipped my old regulator that I wish someone
would replace, but it didn't do any harm, sigh)

My stuff finally smells good and is of the "squeeky" cleanliness that sends
squeekily clean TV housewifes in all kinds of high mental and spiritual
states. And the used solution ...um...it...well...even worked great on my
....um... running shoes and neopren booties that were probably in much more
need of disinfection than the counterlung ... ;->

Regards,
Walter Comper

BTW. They also have complete respirator/SCBA cleaning kits and even a heated
drying unit - just in case you want to pamper your lil' buddy ;-)
