That is with Doctor X you don't need to figure out what's the best mix for a given dive, the program will do that for you given paramenters you set such as whether you can stack gases, what EAD you want and whether you want out of the water asap as well as the O2 ATA's you're willing to accept. In short, each has its own benifits. Abyss, for instance, will be much more than just a simple dive planner, but also a logbook, has a tissue bar display and will allow you to choose different "tables". DeCom is the least expensive and not a bad starter, especially for the price. Comparing the programs in any depth really would take alot of time. Just to be fair, I'd say Proplan has the advantage of doing, easily, multi level dives and has a good interface for a dos program.
