>Joel; > "NAUI - Gas Blender"...isn't that like "Jumbo - Shrimp", or "Military - >Intelligence"? >T.P. Actually, it's an surprisingly good course. If this (and the nitrox course I had a chance to look over) are a sample of what NAUI Tech is going to be like, I think NAUI tech is going to give the existing tech agencies a real run for their money. I took it couple weeks ago, mostly just for fun and to get some legit credentials, but also to find out what I'd been doing wrong (surprising little, considering I taught myself mixing/O2 cleaning out of a book) and found the course very practical and refreshingly free from bullshit - the approach to cleaning is much closer to what you find the the OXY HACKER than the liability obcessed clean-room lunacy coming from the SCUBA manufacturers and some of the tech agencies. An couple other nice things about it - they let you take the course even if you aren't an instructor/dive shop employee, and the one course covers O2 cleaning, nitrox and trimix. However, ultimately any course depends more on the instructor than the agency or text, and that's where Joel comes in. If the same course was being taught by some instant tech instructor type who'd just gotten certified to teach it, I'd say skip it and buy the OXY HACKER instead - it covers all the same stuff as the NAUI text, and a whole lot more besides. But Joel has been doing this stuff a long time, and adds a lot of depth and experience to the course material (besides being able to answer just about any question you can come up with) and that, for me, was what really made it worth while. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
