Hi Folks: Sorry to use up bandwidth for this sort of thing, but we need publicity quickly and desperately. Please forward this to any person or lists (rec.scuba??) you think might be interested. In the Fall of 1997, the Tobermory Maritime Association was formed, with the immediate objective to find a boat to sink just outside the limits Fathom Five National Park. Tobermory is a town of 500 on the tip of the Bruce Peninsula that separates Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. Fathom Five National Marine Park surrounds the town, and houses more than twenty-five shipwrecks. The town depends heavily on diving and tourism during the summer months for it's economy. The wrecks are all wooden and remarkably well preserved for "natural" wrecks, but lately many divers have become unsatisfied with these wrecks, expecting to see more intact wrecks such as the artificial reefs in B.C. and elsewhere. The T.M.A. has found a ship that would be an ideal wreck, and can be bought for it's scrap value . The scrap value is $40,000 (Cdn.), and we are now in the process of raising the money to buy it. Unfortunately, the seller will sell it to the scrap yards if we cannot buy it by the end of the spring. We are obtaining permission to issue tax receipts for donations, and would appreciate donations of any amount.
