I have a Dive-Rite, OMS, and Brownies plate. I like the Brownies plate the best because for almost the same price as the OMS I get a complete setup including bent d-rings, and innertubes to hold the backup lights. They also have a bigger slot for the crotch strap, so you can use 2" webbing. The plate is finished well, and is the same thickness as the OMS. >(Scubapro SS backplates? - wonder what they are going for?) The Scubapro plate is a copy of the Brownies plate right down to the 2" crotch strap slot, and square mounting holes at the bottom. The Scubapro does look nice though, it is shiny, and has their 'S' logo etched into the plate. If I'm not mistaken, the Scubapro also ships with the harness like the Brownies, and is not sold separately. Brownies is your best deal, followed by Scubapro if you want a plate that comes with a harness. Then there is the OMS. If you want a different plate then you can go with Sean Stevenson's plate, or a Tennant plate (if he still makes them) to save a few bucks, but then you have to do your own harness (no big deal). -Jon -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
