Subject: 3AL, SP, E

Curious to know, as I have heard different stories.
If a tank is originally marked with an "SP" or "E" number, and then on a
subsequent Hydro test is remarked by the Hydro Facility "3AL", does this mean
that the "SP" or "E" permit was renewed (or whatever) and the tank now meets
the "3AL" criteria? I have a tank that at the date of manufacture was marked
"SP6498" but has subsequently been stamped "3AL" on a Hydrotest.
I am going to assume that you would have to rely on the competence of the
Hydro facility, to know which to restamp 3AL and which have actually had the
"SP" or "E" permit expire, and therefore, should be condemned, regardless of
results of a hydro test.
Anybody have the scoop on this? As I said I have heard different stories,
so I am not really interested in "I thinks" or "I heards".

Many thanks,

Kevin
