Perhaps they put the buckle on the right side intentionally?  I've
heard people argue that it's better to do that on OW gear because 
then you get a "left-hand release" that is less easily confused with 
the weight belt buckle.

I understand that argument, but think it's a crock -- if you do it 
exactly like with doubles (buckle attached to the left side of the 
webbing but long enough to reach around to the right and hold the 
light in place), then there is no confusion because the two buckles 
are nowhere near eachother.
