my girlfriend uses double 72s in a CF200 with only about 5# of lead. she's tiny and has a rather low air consumption, so they work out well for her. it's almost a perfect match when i'm diving double 85s. another thought for using doubles in basic sport diving: a set of OMS 45s is very small, streamlined and light and can hold well over 100cf. the only thing you'd be missing would be the isolation on the manifold. using this setup, you can use the same harness, plate, wings and regs as w/ big doubles, and not have the single/pony, H/Y valve, or trim problems. the real drawback here obviously is price (~$800 for a set w/ bands and manifold). one thing that has been bothering me is that looking at buoyancy charts, 72s have a very similar rating as Al 80s (-2.0 to +3.5 as opposed to -3 to +3 for the 80s, according to the PSI "Inspecting Cylinders" book). this would seem to make them acceptable tanks to use as stages if one doesn't need 80cf of gas. similarly they should make good open water, wetsuit doubles. any thoughts here? --- Glenn Goettler Liquid Earth geg@li*.co* http://www.liquidearth.com -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
