Jim I do not dive a pony but would rig and dive it in the same way as I dive deco bottles. With a deco bottle, I analyse and pressure check before a dive (on the boat) to double check the previous fill-time analysis and pressure readings. At this point I connect the regs, pressurise and switch off. During the dive, the regs are off but occasionally (once, perhaps twice) re-pressurised to ensure they have not purged. They are returned to their off setting until needed. SPGs are not required.
