in regards to my esteemed colleague roger steal's request for information on technical diving fatalities for 1997,i took his advice and called my good friend dan orr over at duke.i asked for fatality statistics for the year 1997 and although not all of the information is compiled yet, this is what we have. of the 8 "technical diving" fatalities in 1997 that are recorded with the divers alert network we have the following information on five of them: henry pretarious - died on a tdi training dive in south africa he was working on his tdi trimix instructor rating, did the check clear? rob palmer - died on a dive in the red sea.he was a tdi instructor, member of the tdi board of directors, and director for tdi europe. rumour has it he also was a good friend of bret gilliams. rob parker - died on a dive in the bahamas.he was a tdi instructor, diving with a tdi instructor, diving with a tdi facility. doug missavage - died on a training dive for a tdi course. dennis sirven - died on a deep dive after smoking marijuana,as confirmed by the sourite, was a tdi instructor and franchise holder for tdi france. although no direct neglignece on behalf of tdi is shown here,we do have a very quantifiable link that does lead one to speculate.do we honestly believe everything in maine is as rosey as it is claimed to be?i don't think so. - dick -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
