Confession time...

Before I knew any better, I had a Zeagle wing with a pull dump as part of
the inflate hose. I rarely used this convolution but it was there
anyway. On one drift dive in filthy conditions, the value chose to
part-open and stick part-open. As with all things this happened at the
same time as a few other CFs some of my making and some not (I won't bore
everyone with these). I was on my way down the slippery slope of the
incident pit. The effect of my failed pull dump was that my ascent and
buoyancy control went to hell. After a short time I worked out what was
wrong and switched to my redundant source of buoyancy and sorted out the
situation.

I guess I am speculating (I should await the facts) as to one possible
cause (stroke equipment) of this incident. However, I felt it worth
mentioning in the hope that someone else will recognise the failure mode
of a pull dump change their kit.

Needless to say I now dive Hogarthian with a Dive Rite original wing
(pull toggle removed) as a result of the excellent information provided
by George and others.

John, John, John - SEE THE TAPE - we cut that off. Only a stroke would
have the stupid toggles on a pull dump. The bottles trigger it. This
device is for releasing gas in a situation where you can not get heads
up, but is almost never used, since the bc wil generally release gas
from any position if there is too much in it.
