I was not diving with the guys - they told me it happened really fast.
Once down on the bottom at 40m he started inflating his wing (he uses
his suit for buoyancy for some reason) the button stuck or froze. He
tried to remove the hose but was unable to do that due to ice forming.

Everything happened very quickly - he was on the surface in less than
20 seconds. No time to close the valve for him.

Some of us use quickreleases for the inflator hoses so we can disconnect
regardless of any ice. he couldn't even empty the wing - it froze solid.

On the surface or close to it it ripped apart.
