>I recently read an abstract of a diving experiment. In the abstract they >mention the use of > > "Quidel immunoassays of complement components C5-C9" > > >to test for DCI. Is this a blood test for DCI? I can dig up the exact >reference if anyone is interested. The abstract concerned the use of >surface interval O2 and contained limited information. For example there >is no reference to papers on this Quidel immunoassay. Complement can be activated by exposure to surfaces (such as gas-plasma surface). The idea is as follows; you and your age;weight;physique etc-matched buddy go diving. You both have bubbles in you circulation after decompression. You have complement which is easily acitviated by exposure to a surface but your buddy has complement which is not easily activated by exposure to the same surface. You get symptoms of DCI. He doesn't get any symptoms. Complement activation is an important component of the overall syndrome of DCI. I guess Quidel are a commercial company selling kits to do this assay. /Rat ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ shelps@ac*.ma*.ad*.ed*.au*|Stephen Helps PhD Ack! ___/| FAX (08)232-3283 |Anaesthesia & Intensive Care \O.o| Voice (08)224-5495 |University of Adelaide =(___)= |ADELAIDE, 5005, South Australia U ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dumas : Hey, who used the cardiac output computer last, it's busted!
