Hello, Just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone that gave me input for cavern and intro training some time back. I had several excellent instructors to chose from. But decided on Tyler Moon, I'm sure the others would of done a fine job, but Tyler got the nod. Had planned on taking cavern and intro with the possibility of doing apprentice. Class started Sat. the 7th and there ended up being another student. He had signed up to go through apprentice, so I did the same. But there were several time during our training I was wondering if we would see apprentice. Tyler stuck with us, and where as we no doubt were far from his best students at least we made through apprentice. Gear set up was fun, tie wraps where flying. Now have everything held in place with line. I had checked out some of the web sites and I'm using a backplate and wings so my set up wasn't too bad. The other student need a bit more time, he was using Superwings and transpack or something like that. After Tyler explained the short comings of his set up and the benefits of the backplate and wings set up, I think he is about ready to change. The other student was also reluctant to give up his be loved ankle weights. But of course finely did. After several try's each I believe we got the running of the primary reel down pretty well. Like I told Tyler "We may not be very good, but we sure are slow" The biggest problem was with buoyancy i.e.: to much or not enough. Oh ya, and silting we kind of trashed the catacombs on Fri. so there is room for improvement. The buoyancy for me was the main problem(get the buoyancy down and the silting should mostly go away). I have been diving for 11 or 12 years and just this past year have made almost 80 dives. Neutral buoyancy has never been a problem, but in Devils Ear with the current this was another issue. I will be back in Orlando in Jan. for a convention (World of Concrete, yes a concrete convention) and plan on extending my stay and taking full cave from Tyler. Not a lot of time to work on the buoyancy issue, if I can get a couple of ice dives in I believe that will help, seeing as it is an overhead environment. Also I will have 2 days at Ginnie before starting full cave to practice. Once again, thanks to everyone that provided me with information................... Al P.S. The weather sucked, had to come back to Minnesota to see the sun, go figure!!!!!!! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
