Jim.

I make my own weights with a portable "kitchen style" 2000 watt plate.
I use a big regular cast. It's not Iron, it's light. I melt like 15-20 kg
in one turn.
If you have a propane blowtorch, it will go faster melting the lead down.
You need like 300 degree celsius.
You need to be outdoor or you will be poisoned by the leadgas.
Be VERY careful not having ANY water/moisture in the melted lead. Even a
small drop of water may cause severe damage to you, if you stay close. The
water will evaporate with such speed, it seems like an explotion.

It's very easy, but it takes time to heat up the lead. I use "Linotype"
witch I get from a local printing works or I get these used carwheel
balancing leadweight for free at the local Gas Station.

You make the "negativ" casting mould out of wood, but it need to be free of
crack formation. Or you can make a "positive" original out of wood, then
you can mould a "negativ" casting mould out of modelling gypsum/plaster.
The kind that a sculptor use. Remember to reinforce the plaster with
medical bandage.

If you can pre-heat a casting mould, the surface will look better. If it's
important :-)
