The relationship between CO2 produced and Oxygen consumed is kalled RQ and varies depending on what you are burning. If you are burning pure fat RQ is about 0.7, if you are burning pure carbohydate RQ is about one. A mixture of carbohydrate, fat and protein (the normal situation) give an RQ in between. In other words less CO2 is produced than O2 consumed.
