Bill I did a trimix course with Kevin Gurr earlier on this year. Diving with the isolator shut to "save gas" certainly was not part of the course. However, on the way back from a dive he did mention that on a short dive, diving with, say, twin 15L cylinders he would have the isolator shut. He would then only have to dump and refill 15L instead of 30L. Is this really so bad? If he had a problem It takes a second to reach behind and open the isolator. While Im on the subject, George I. wrote "Whether they were friends of Palmer or not, who knows, and now we konw how much influence kevin Gurr and the Slob have in the UK - same as everywhere- ZERO. This is not about Palmer, it is about deep air." You're most probably right about the Slo - er - Gilliam. But I think Gurr has a good reputation this side of the pond. He is against deep air diving and it wasn't a prerequisite for the IANTD - UK Trimix course. The deepest I've been on air is 56m (1.4 ppo2) and I have absolutely no intention of going any deeper without helium.
