I have a Nemesis II Nitrox. It has been in twice to get it "fixed". I think, finally, it works like it's supposed to. They MAY have solved their problems????? I hope so! I had one of the original Sherwood versions made by Cochran. Sherwood recalled them all and canceled their deal with Cochran. Too bad, 'cause that one worked great! I have recently bought one before subscribing to Aquanaut, and very interested in learning about any potential problems. I also have Aladin Pro Nitrox, and thinking about getting the Commander for my wife. Thanks in advance. ---------- From: Lee Gibson Sent: 30. november 1997 00:09 To: usnseal@ne*.co* Subject: Re: dive comuters Wendy, I used to have an Aladdin Pro also. It was durable and reliable, but was lost to a garage fire. When I replaced it I got a Nitrox compatible computer to decrease my decompression dues and my propensity for skin bends on those long 100' dives. I 've used the Aladdin Nitrox, the Cochran Commander, and the Oceanic Nitrox. I have avoided the gas integrated computers because of the KISS principle. As expected the Aladdin is a robust dependable instrument, but the most expensive of the three with familiar screens and operation. The Oceanic is a simple straight forward unit and the least expensive. The Commander which I eventually bought for myself is priced between the two extremes. It allows not only the use of Nitrox, but also a switch to a higher pO2 mix for deco...the programming is easier than it sounds. All three have some form of back lighting. The Aladdin is luminescent. The Oceanic has a transient back light which is button activated like a Indiglo watch. The Commander has a red constant back light which can be activated during pre-dive programing. They can all be down-loaded to a PC with the proper interface and software. The Commander and the Oceanic have user replaceable batteries. As I said, I use a Commander. I bought my girlfriend the Oceanic. And, I helped Steve Gerrard get an Aladdin. All are good units with their own individual merits. Even if the only Nitrox you dive is AIR, I would still purchase one of these unit. The price and programming are similar to the air only computers and you have the option of programming Nitrox if the need arises. You may have noticed that I did not recommend the Bridge II from Dive-Rite. It is an accurate dependable single mix unit...but it is higher profile with no back light capability(very big negative)not even luminescent and is single gas only without user replaceable batteries. Although I have heard that the Bridge III should address some of these deficiencies.
