Steve,

If you are using a Aluminum/Stanless backplate, all that need be done is
to cut two 2"x1/4" slots on both sides of the backplate, approx 3.5" from
the center. I cut 4 slots in mine so I can use independents when manifolded
doubles are not possible (As in most sumps). Use the wings for a
template... Use 2 short bolts and wingnuts to hold the wings in the
desirable location. Mark the slot positions with a marker and use a grinder
to cut the slots. Takes just a little filing to smooth out the rough edges.
Thread cam-buckles (I use the newer Scuba Pro quick cam straps) through,
then pop the tank in and there you go.
Took less than an hour to do one of my backplates and I promise it holds
the tank very very well and has made my rig very versitile (changing tanks
is a snap). It also holds the tank closer to the back as there is no other
piece of 1/4" alum or plastic to deal with. I don't think the abs
backplates would be sturdy enough to handle this.
