Hello To All, First the Introduction: My name is Tom Topping. I live and work in the Washington DC area, I dive locally(in Quarrys), off the coast(Mid Atlantic) and in caves(Florida & Mexico). I am a certified Master Diver(choosing not to go the instructor route), Full Cave, Nitrox, and Trimix Diver. I subscribed to the list about 3 weeks ago and postponed my intrduction until I had something to contribute. I have been intently following the latest DCI thread and have been particularly interested in the DRX comments; here is my experience. I was one of the two students in Sheck Exley's last trimix class. The class consisted of two days of lecture with one dive each day. Of course, there was great focus on DRX. We used the maximum conservative factor settings in the program when building the tables for our dives. Our bottom times were actually shorter than the times we used to generate the tables. However, BOTH students were bent during the class. We both had joint pain, his knee, my shoulder. Sheck dove air. We dove to 200' and 220' with a bottom mix of HeleAir 14; switching to and from the bottom mix at 135'. Our bottom times were very short, less than ten minutes. We used O2 on our 20' and 10' stops. This note is not meant to malign Sheck or his accomplishments; I pass this along to further the discussion and to share my experience with those who utilize DRX. Good Diving ...
