My understanding is that there is nearly complete correlation between consumed O2 and expired CO2... Conservation of mass, you know. I'd like to hear more. As I understand it, the Kreb's Cycle, where O2 is used to oxidize glucose and convert it into smaller units of energy in the form of ATP, is pretty much the only place where O2 is consumed in the body, and this process results in one CO2 molecule for every O2 molecule used in the oxidation process.
