Well pretty subjective as far as too loose but try this as a rule to follow if you think it is too loose then change the o-ring, thats about the only thing that can make a lens too loose. In general if once you move the lens out of the detent (start to take it off) try to spin it by putting one finger against one of the adjustment knobs it should be hard to do, again hard is subjective but thats about as good as I can do from 5000 miles away. You can also get the wrong o-ring for the lens I am told that the ones used on Sea&Sea lenses for Nikonos are different, No personnal experience with this.
