All I diver died at Dorothea quarry, North Wales yesterday (10 November 1997). I was decompressing at the time but one of my friends assisted. These are the facts as reported to me. Three divers entered together, the plan was for one diver to go through the tunnel at 57 m and dive solo. The pair of divers dived shallow and then bounced down to 57 m, or thereabouts. On their ascent, the solo diver was found by chance outside the tunnel at 44 m. He was reported to be convulsing and brought to the surface by the other two divers. They called for assistance and towed the casualty ashore. The two divers said that they had missed only a few minutes of stops and were given O2 and evacuated 30 minutes later by helicopter to a recompression chamber. The AV and CC was performed on the dead diver until the paramedics arrived but he was clearly dead. The dead diver never made the surface until lifted by his friends. His computer indicated about 20 minutes of missed stops. The dead diver was estimated to be 27 years old and was diving twin independent 10 l cylinders believed to contain air. Both cylinders were empty. As I was submerged during the whole of this escapade I can't add much more other than to hope that people learn from this pointless death.
