Whilst reading my messages from the list I downloaded, uudecoded, and converted this from Word for Windoze to text and thought I would repost it for Peter. ================== fixed post ================================== ======= well sort of I was 2 lazy to adjust line endings ======== I have just realized that I sent my brief intro with my request for axcess and wish first of to apoligize to the sysop. Maybe there should be a cert for the internet! I am a 43 year old male ,carpenter by trade, and have been diving since 1987. I became interested in diving to further my caving. In addition to my PADI basic diver I have a IANTD nitrox cert. No formal cave diving certs . More on that later. Initialy the open water diving was just to train for the REAL stuff but it has long since become a major source of fun and relaxation. The waters around Vancouver tend to be a little murky due to the proximity of the Fraser river , but all in all we are blesed with some of the best diving in the world. Our caves tend to be small and cold by Yankee standards and we have to travel far and long to get to them, but we pritty much only get involved in original exploration. Cold means three to five deg. celsius and small ranges from a cute little sump we explored last spring near Chilliwack B.C. that was all of 200 ft. long and avg. passage hight of 1.5 ft.(yes my partner and I are quite thin) to another project we are working that has us in about 1.2 km. with a max depth of 150 ft. Our biggest challange on this project is not that we are up to six tanks for a penitration or that the three hour hang is fridged, but rather that dispite the fact that (due to passage size) these dives are usualy solo, we just donwhich brings me back to cave diver training and certification. Training is nessesary and certification a good thing....but. Every time we consider going down to florida for some of that warm and clear water and getting certed we remember....we are making a choice between new gear or a trip....between seeing some of the worlds most spectacular cave dives and original exploration. More than anything else the original exploration keeps us here. We know that we would learn much from a trip south but we also are aware that our conditions hear dictate very different technichs than are common in the big stuff down south. We normaly dive side mounts. We use nitrox and O2 for deco with argon for suit inflation on the long hangs. Aladin promixed gas and custum tables.
