First a brief introduction: I'm Dave Story, and do occasional mild decompression diving in the Monterey/Carmel Bay areas, sometimes with EANx during deco. Most of the decompression is deep decompression (too cold for long shallow dives) so we do fairly short stops. My biggests interests right now are decompression modeling and education. I'm working on some visualization software in my spare time which ought to help folks understand how decompression models work. Now, on to a response: Pete Keener writes: > > I guess I'd have to say that my interest in technical diving would be in the > use of oxygen or oxy-helium rebreathers [...] In the 1991 AAUS International Symposium Proceedings is a really interesting paper on the use of CCORs (Closed-Circuit Oxygen Rebreathers) by the California Dept of Fish and Game to monitor and capture Sea Otters. The author spoke at the conference about how they had progressed from bags and boats, to bags on poles and scuba, to bags and poles on scooters, to their final configuration with CCORs and scooters with front-mounted capture cages. Turns out you can get a good CCOR for about $5K. Draeger Lar V is a bit more, about $8K. I was interested until I realized that in Monterey, with water temps 50-55F most of the year and surface-30fsw conditions often very rough, it wouldn't do much good. If you're interested, I can dig up the address to get the Proceedings. I got my copy free for speaking, so I don't have the address handy.
