Below you will find an email message that was forwarded to me by a newly certified recreational Padi nitrox diver that I met through a friend. We discussed a few things with regards to Nitrox filling techniques and I was amazed by the story that he told me listed below. I asked for his permission to post this publically. I was not aware of the new super deluxe filling systems available on the market. What surprised me was that Brownies has not made this item available for the retail market. >From: boom125@wi* for privacy >Date: Tue, 07 Oct 1997 11:57:43 -0400 >To: JJB <lungs@ic*.ne*> >Subject: Re: Brownies > >Hi Jim, > >Now - before you post anything about Brownies I have to emphasize that >the staff there is 100% friendly and they do what they can to satisfy me >as a costumer. >Brownies has one shop off 17th ST and one off Broward so I asked several >staff members on diferent occasions and got this answer with regards on getting an >air fill with my nitrox clean tanks: > >"Since an airfill into a nitroxtank has to still go though our tripple >filtersystem we charge the same ($ 7) as a NITROX fill" > >For the time being I go to Divers UnLTD. - they charge me $ 2.60 and >take the air not from their normal fillingstation but from their NITROX >hose - just that they don't fill any 02 into it and give me a 21% air fill. > >Actually I can live more with that (specially since Brownies told me >beforehand) than with what happend with B & B in Dania on US 1, where >the guy promised to nitroxclean one tank and one valve for $ 37 and >never mentioned any "hidden charges" - when I came back he added for >O-rings and some xxcharge and $ 4.50 for the sticker.
