Chuck, I disagree with you. 1. Zip ties suck, they should not be used for holding together life support equipment. Double, triple, whatever it does not matter. To prove this to yourself, try the twist test that Peter mentioned, it is an eye-opener. 2. The alternative is cheaper, easier, and better than zip ties. 3. You should never use a metal to metal connection. This split ring stuff is bullshit, you know that, Chuck. You've got to be able to cut yourself out of a jam. Go to your dive shop and get a spool of wreck/cave reel line. If they don't know what you are talking about, leave that diveshop and never go back, go try another one. Where you would use a zip tie, take some caver line, go around 3 times, then tie off by using a square knot with a double twist on the bottom and a single on top. Trim the ends off close, then take a cigarette lighter and melt them down to the knot into little knobs, the knot will not become untied.
