They are as simple as anything can be! >> ----------------------- If you want a true demonstration of the structural integrity of a zip tie: try breaking two ziped objects (such as the eye of a snap shackel, d-ring, light lanyard-eye, etc.) by twisting each side. Even the 100lb test ties will fall apart like silly puddy, assuming the wrap is tight, as it should be. If not, twist a little farther. Does DAN insurance cover items lost on a dive due to gear failure, or is there an exception clause just for tie-wraps? For one of my classes, my instructor pulled out my neat and tidy double-zip tied lights, and very loudly and clearly informed the rest of the class and onlookers of how rich I must be for the ability to throw away such expensive b/u lights, and twisted them off as if they were paper. I felt like a complete bone-head, and promptly re-tied everything with #24 or #36 line. Not to mention the burr, no matter how closely cropped it is, will slice through just about anything you don't want it to slice (limbs, wet/drysuit, safety line, etc.). However, for above-water applications, zip ties are right up there with duct tape as tools of the gods. Regards Peter. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
