Once again I have to learn the hard way when it comes to taking advice
from the WKPP gang. "Get rid of zip ties, they suck". But did I?
Nooooooo. I mean what can go wrong with a zip tie? They are as simple as
anything can be! Here's what can go wrong:

1. They rot and fall apart unexpectedly.
2. They look great right up to the time of failure.

I am now one wreck reel poorer, all I have left is the bolt snap. While I
was wondering how this could happen I heard a "clunk" behind me. I turned
and saw my first lying on the deck, it had been clipped to my sholder
D-ring. On inspection, the zip tie holding the bolt to the hose had
failed, snapped right in 2.

Lord knows what caused the zips to rot like that, but when I got home I
de-zipped my equipment (I had an amazing 14 zip ties holding various
wreck gear together). Looking at the zips, it appears that the ones
attached with small radiuses had the greatest likelihood of failure. At
any rate I reattached everything with caver line and melted the ends to
secure the knots.

So far my tally for learning the hard-way:

-OMS bondage wings- loss $200
-OMS deluxe harness- loss $100
-Plastic backplate- loss $35
-Neoprene drysuit loss $750 (still suffering)
-Redundant air guage loss $75
-Short hose loss $25
-Crappy dive light loss $250
-Pony bracket loss $150
-Vest BC loss $450
-Pig sticker knife loss $50
-Dive computer loss $350
-Wreck reel (zips) loss $85

And I'd like to thank the strokes who bought my stroke equipment and hope
you have the same luck getting rid of it when the lightbulb turns on in
your heads. As for you guy's who sold me that stroke equipment (you know
who you are), may you all burn in hell, you souless bastards.
