Ha Ha Ha. I hope that I didn't infer that the WKPP uses FFM's as
primaries in my message. I use them (the ScubaPro's) on deco bottles
the same way you do, and for the same reasons (potential o2 tox). I
also did not mean to infer that the comms were for diver to diver
communication. Sign language serves this purpose beautifully without
unnecessary convolution. The comms are used in shallow support diver
to surface platform communication, and are only necessary when the
conditions and dive objective warrant. The primary dive team obviously
would not use a device that interfered with gas sharing in any way.
The most appropriate use for FFM's is for positive pressure when diving
in contaminated water, in combination with a vulcanized drysuit . In
this case hardwire comms are employed between the diver and his tender,
with line pull signals serving as a secondary means of communication.
Sign language is great, but is next to useless in faceplate vis.

You are right that FFM's are extremely dangerous, and apart from deco
use I would adamantly discourage anyone reading this message from using
a FFM as a primary unless there is an explicit need for it for safety
reasons. For any application lacking surface supplied gas, the
traditional Hogarthian configuration is THE SAFEST WAY TO DIVE, period.

PS - It sounds as though you know Wayne much better than you really
should...
