Here's the plan. A old friend of mine has just become certified, and just today spent a huge sum of money on gear. He doesn't appear to have bought anything that would get him labeled as a stroke, but he has yet to buy tanks. I told him about the blessed and annointed PS 104's and 95's, but you can't get them here. The dive store told him about what they can get, and around we went. So what we're going to do, is we're going to build a box. Since I'm a carpenter, and General, we're going to build an EXACT box, a box that is precise in it's dimensions, and we're going to sink a variety of tanks in it. We're going to stuff a tank into the box, cover it with water, mark the level, jerk the tank out, mark the new level, and then we will have exact dimensions for the displacement of that tank, and can calculate the weight of sea water it displaces. Then we're going to weigh it empty, weigh it full, and arrive a what we think are the REAL bouyancy figures for that tank. This arises because we've heard conflicting numbers on different tanks, and now don't believe anyone. The only tanks we have available are the ubiquitous al 80, the vaunted 104's, and an old steel 72 that I've collected. We also have a couple sizes of ponies, the al 30 and the al 13, as well as an old B size O2 cylinder that I use for argon. Does anyone see any holes in our plans? Comments? Flames? Complaints? I'll make another post sometime this weekend with the results, and then I'll dedicate the rest of my life to making the lives of equipment salesmen miserable with the TRUTH. Unless I can get a spot on the Vision, which is a bigger boat... --------- "Huh?" --Jammer, 1992 --------- -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
