Michael,

Tommy Cecil was quite well known in the UK for rescuing Richard (Virgin) =

Branson
during one of his balloon attempts.
His death has been covered at some length in the British press. =

The reporting has generally been sensationalist and poorly researched.

The story as I understand it is this:

Apparently Tommy had a reputation for diving deep air. =

He may have had access to trimix, but was not qualified by TDI or IANTD.
The wreck was the Tuscanian and they had found the bell some days before.=

It is situated off Islay, West Coast Scotland.
Tommy had been ill during the previous week.
Apparently he blew up from 93m, and was unconscious on surfacing.
Norman Woods, his buddy, came to the surface with him, but carried =

out I/W recompression for omitted stops.
Tommy was buried on Friday. =

Regards, Ewan Rowell
