While I agree that you can't force anyone to do it your way, or the right way, the problem is there are too many people who don't have the EXPERIENCE to KNOW the SAFEST way. The problem is just magnified when the people you learn from do not tell you what you should avoid. We can all make our own mistakes, sure, and we can all die from them...that's fine...people should just avoid contributing to OTHERS deaths by giving poor instruction. Once a diver has the proper EXPERIENCE, he will KNOW what works and what doesn't. P.S. As I said in my previous post, I heard the diver was on air. That said, I also heard he had a freeflow. You can't necessarily fault him for the freeflow.....at the depth he was at, the water temp was 38-39deg. F. and up here it happens all the time. BUT, if he was on air, that just means his REACTION to the freeflow may have not been so good. If he was on mix, it may have still happened though. Poor reactions were no doubt the actual "Cause" of death.
