Imagine how this must limit the ability to >use high percentage O2 to only a small portion of the total decompression ! > >Chuck True, CNS is more of a concern than OTUs. I was trying to say that I would not be concerned about pulmonary toxicity unless I was doing a lot of hard core diving with no rest in between. This kind of toxicity is mainly a concern with long exposures of low or moderate O2 pressures. This is not the kind of thing that your average tech diver will experience. If I were doing long exposures like the WKPP do in Wakulla then I would be more concerned with it. Maybe I should have said saturation diving instead of welding at 800 ft (this is what I meant) where I could expose myself to lower O2 pressures for an extended period of time. Even then, I could go for weeks at 0.5 PPO2. It is idiotic to state that you should run a lower PPO2 for a relatively short decompression because you are worried about trashing your lungs. So you end up closing the Oxygen window because you are worried about the pulmonary daemon. What are the average hangs at the shallow stops 20 to 45 minutes? So, you want to use 80/20 to reduce your OTUs (when I say "you" I really mean the "Doctor")? A lot of people can get hung-up with OTUs. Just a few weeks ago an IANTD instructor tried to tell JJ that your OTUs WILL START TO CREDIT AFTER 90 MINUTES. 50% credit of OTUs after 90 minutes? Duhh, why even have OTUs? Obviously, he mixed up CNS and OTU, but I mention this because he was the guy who wrote some of the IANTD text!!!! He must have known that he was completely wrong, but was unwilling to back down from his statements. Hopefully, he does not do this with his students. This is not rocket science, but people still get confused (Tom, don't take this as a personal attack). -Jon -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
