I don't know how fast they can fly, but it's a long ride for them, once they decide that the chopper is really needed, scramble the aircrew, do whatever they need to get the aircraft in the air, etc., etc. It CAN happen on bumfuck Lake Superior, it's just that it's going to take a damned long time. We'd love to have a local rescue chopper, but instead we're trying to hang on to the few genuine Coast Guard facilities we have left, and not have to depend on auxiliary manned stations.
