I think the theory is that one of the things you might do whilst running
into enemy machinegun fire is to be scared enough to wet yourself.  If
you attend to this matter prior to actually making your run at glory,
then that's that load off your mind and you won't be task-loaded with two
things to worry about.

I should add that even the fellows in Braveheart didn't do this, but then
of course the English didn't have machineguns yet back then.  Mooning a
barrage of arrows was the state of the art back then.
