In the last few days a few people have slammed Darryl Ertel for not being there to help with the accident at Whitefish 8/30. I have to add another note in Darryl's defense. The way he has been portrayed does not fit the guy I've been diving with the last couple of years. If he could have helped, he would have been there. Unfortunately Darryl's battery died out on the water. I ran around the harbor that afternoon begging for jumper cables to get him going. We gave the cables to Jack Spencer of Scuba North, who motored out and jump started Darryl's boat over one of the wrecks. When your boat won't start, it is pretty hard to get involved in rescue operations. Where were all the other boats when the call went out 8/30? There were a lot of trailers in the parking lot that day.
