With reference to the German woman who got bent in earlier posts, just
to throw in the numbers from another set of diving tables ...
With the BS-AC'88 tables this works out as follows:
Surface code A.
45 feet for 35 mins --> 15 metres for 54 mins
Surface code D
[ Yes, 54 minutes, the 15m depth line jumps from 24 minutes (code C) to
54 minutes (code D) ]
2.5 hour surface interval
Surface code C
60 feet for 35 mins --> 18 metres for 38 mins
** ALARM ** ALARM **
The tables indicate a 6 minute decompression stop at 6 metres for
this dive.
This seems a bit excessive compared to other peoples tables. Have I
made a mistake? Anyone else with the BS-AC'88 tables want to verify
this? However, the BS-AC are always telling us that their tables are
supposed to be the safest in the world!
I personally suspect the dehydration and the rapid ascent to be the
problem, rather than gonig 3m deeper on the 2nd dive. Ok, I use a
membrane suit with a front zip, but it's really no problems (on what I
assume to be a largish hard boat) to get out of a neoprene suit between
dives, is it?
The BS-AC recomend no more than 3 dives in a 24-hour period, (deepest
first), a complete days rest after 4 days diving to 30m (or greater)
and no more than 20 minutes of in-water stops in a 24 hour period.
Ascent rates are 15m/min to 6m (or 9m if deco at 9m) then 6m/min to the
surface. Deco. stops are at 9m and 6m only. (Most deco. dives only need
the 6m stop). A 1 min safety stop at 6m is a fairly normal thing to do
on a deepish dive (>15m).
If anyone want me to work out some sample profiles using BS-AC'88
tables, as a comparision against other tables, let me know.
Safe diving!
